Staff threatened with broken bottle during armed robbery in Belfast

Police are investigating after a staff member was threatened with a broken bottle during an armed robbery in south Belfast.

It happened in the Botanic area on Monday evening.

A man in his 30s has been arrested.

Detective Sergeant Kitchen said: "At around 7.20pm it was reported that a man entered an off-licence in the area, waited to be served and then threatened a staff member with a broken bottle.

"He then climbed over the counter, opened the till and removed the takings before leaving the store and heading towards the university. No one was injured during the incident.

"The man was wearing a black puffer coat and grey jogging bottoms.

"Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to call police on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 1715 24/03/25."
