Book of Condolence to open in Derry for Chloe Mitchell

A Book of Condolence will open in Londonderry in memory of Chloe Mitchell.
It will open to the public from 3pm today (Friday) in the Guildhall.
A huge search operation was launched after the 21-year-old, from Co Antrim, went missing on the 3rd of June.
The search was called off after suspected human remains were discovered in Ballymena.
It follows a proposal at last night’s Health and Community Committee meeting for a Book of Condolence to be opened in her memory to allow the people of Derry and Strabane to show their support to her family.
The proposal included an agreement to write to the UK Prime Minister indicating Council’s support for ensuring that the Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy is delivered in the absence of a functioning Assembly and Executive.
Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District Council, Patricia Logue, said the news sent “Shockwaves through the city.”
She said: “Everyone in our community has the right to feel safe and as a society we must do everything we can to protect women and girls from any form of violence.
“The Book of Condolence is an opportunity for the public in Derry and Strabane to show solidarity with Chloe’s family and express our sympathy to them at this unimaginably difficult time.”
