Belfast is heading to Hollywood 🏆 🎬
Last updated 8th Feb 2022
News just in....Sir Kenneth Branagh's Belfast has just scooped seven 2022 Oscar nominations!
The hottest red carpet event in Hollywood, the Academy Awards takes place on March 27th in the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
Last year’s ceremony was delayed by two months due to Covid, so the eligibility window for entrants was cut down to 10 months rather than a full year. The number of features eligible (released between 1 March and 31 December 2021) for Best Picture this year was a total of 276.
The cast and crew of Branagh’s semi-autobiographical film Belfast have been nominated seven times!
- Best Supporting Actress - Dame Judi Dench
- Best Supporting Actor – Ciáran Hinds
- Best Sound
- Original Screenplay
- Achievement in Music Original Song - “Down to Joy” Van Morrison
- Best Director – Kenneth Branagh
- Best Film – Belfast
Dame Judi Dench is in fact the oldest woman nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category EVER! Could history be made next month?
Just last week Belfast picked up six BAFTA nominations, including Best Film, Outstanding British Film, Original Screenplay, and Editing. As well as individual nominations for Caitríona Balfe (Best Supporting Actress) and Ciarán Hinds (Best Supporting Actor).
Set at the beginning of the Troubles, Belfast tells the story of a young boy called Buddy, played by rising star Jude Hill from Gilford, juggling family life and young love in a city on the brink of war.
