Over 60 'Back to the Future' cars arrive in Belfast
The ‘DeLorean Revival’ has owners from all over the UK, Ireland, Europe and beyond arrive on our shores.
You could see a massive convoy of 'Back to the Future Cars' if you're driving in Belfast this weekend.
The ‘DeLorean Revival’ has owners from all over the UK, Ireland, Europe and beyond arrive on our shores.
First made popular through the mega movie series ‘Back to the Future’, the DMC-12 DeLorean was originally manufactured in Dunmurry.
The first stop of the weekend was the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum. One of the organisers of the weekend, Lurgan man David Abraham, spoke to CoolFM/Downtown exclusively:
“There's cars that have come from as far away as the Netherlands, and from America as well. A lot of people love the DeLorean for the car being the car. Personally, for me I grew up from the generation of back to the future, I found out the car was made in Belfast, my uncle worked in the factory, and then you find out the car is real whenever you’re a wee lad, and I got the opportunity to buy the car at the end of 2017, so I’ve owned it since 2018.”
When asked how it feels to be a part of this sort of community, Mr Abraham went on to say: “It's nice to see, we’ve done a few road trips throughout Ireland the last few years, this is the first time I’ve been involved in something as big as this here, it’s just brilliant, something to be proud of.”
Tomorrow, the motors made famous by the Back to the Future movies will arrive at Stormont. On Sunday, the enthusiasts take to the test track at the old DeLorean factory in west Belfast, which has opened for the first time in over eight years.
