Ash Receive NI Music Prize In Association With Blue Moon

It’s been 20 years since Ash released their debut album ‘1977’, since then the County Down rockers have well and truly made their mark on the music industry.

This week the band are heading back to Belfast for a very special performance and to receive the ‘Oh Yeah Legend Award’ (supported by Blue Moon and PRS).

The award recognises the band's outstanding contribution to music.

Ash formed at Downpatrick High School in 1992 and had two Number One albums in the UK plus 18 Top 40 singles. Front man of the band, Tim Wheeler also won an Ivor Novello Award for Best Contemporary Pop Song in 2001 for ‘Shining Light’, which was written about Tim’s ex-girlfriend. Their music was appeared on numerous film soundtracks and has featured on ‘Gran Turismo’.

Talking about the 1977 tour, Ash say, “We’re as excited as we are in disbelief to announce the 20th anniversary tour of 1977. Some of these songs have grown with us throughout those years; others have the ability to transport us mentally and emotionally back to that crazy formative year of 1995 to 1996. These gigs are going to be a trip, trip, trip!”
