Two Belfast schools, Methodist College Belfast and Campbell College, will battle it out for the 2022 title of Danske Bank Ulster School’s Cup champions tomorrow.

Methody hold the record for the most wins in the competition, with 36 titles in 64 final appearances, while Campbell have been crowned the kingpins of Ulster Schools rugby 24 times in their history - third in the trophy table with only RBAI separating the two finalists with 32 wins of their own.

Downtown Cool FM’s Gareth McCullough caught up the teams ahead of the much-anticipated final on March 17th.

Tom Crowther, Campbell’s captain, describes the atmosphere and buzz around the school as electric in the build-up to the day.

“This competition has always been a part of the history of our school, it’s something we take real pride in.

“I’ve been at Campbell since I was in P3, that year was 2011, when we won the School’s Cup, and I remember saying to myself, that’s going to be me. For some of the guys in the team, we’ve been playing together since then.”

Methody’s Peter O’Hagan looks ahead to the big clash with their Belfast rivals.

“We know what we need to do, so as long as we can do that, then the rest will take care of itself.

“A good few of us came to watch their semi-final last week, they’re looking good. They beat us earlier in the season as well, so it will be good to get a chance to avenge that too.”
