Popular TV cartoon series The Simpsons has been known to correctly predict some real life events, from Trump being President of the US, to the 'invention of The Shard' and the Siegfried and Roy tiger attack. And now it seems that they might have just predicted this year's World Cup Final teams - back in 1997!

A massive 21-years-ago, in season nine of The Simpsons, the cartoon showed a football match to determine the 'greatest team on earth' between Portugal and Mexico, and this hasn't gone unnoticed on social media. The Twitter user known as Nesrine said, 'The Simpsons in the season 9 (1997) predicted a football final between Portugal and México!! Wow.. I frankly can't stop myself from believing in this 'cause the cartoon had such an impressive history of valid predictions and connotations.' sic

And over 2000 people have replied to Nesrine's tweet with one saying, 'Love this ! They really do have all these relative predictions'.

Others have taken to Twitter to also suggest that The Simpsons's prediction could come true.

At present, due to the way the draw has turned out, if both Portugal and Mexico are successful in their games, then they wouldn't meet until the final! So, whilst it is a very remote possibility that we will see a final between the two teams 'predicted' by The Simpsons, it could happen!

In other Simpsons news, earlier this year a totally made-up word from the series was added to the American Merriam-Webster dictionary. The word 'embiggen' was first used in The Simpsons in 1996 and means 'to make bigger or more expansive'. The new word's addition to the dictionary was confirmed by a tweet of a gif of a clip from the Avengers Assemble cartoon television series, which is also known to use the word.

Meanwhile, we'll just have to see if The Simpsons did correctly predict the World Cup final teams. 🤞
