DCI John Luther is back...
It's the BBC drama that introduced the nation to Idris Elba and got the country hooked on DCI John Luther's detective work. Alongside his trusted companion Alice Morgan (Ruth Wilson), we've followed their exploits for a decade, and now finally the Luther movie has arrived on Netflix.
Mr Elba has reprised his role as John Luther, so here's everything we know about the 2023 movie.
When is the Luther movie out?
The Luther movie is out now! After much anticipation, fans can finally watch Luther: The Fallen Sun. Netflix took to Twitter to share the exciting news, telling fans: 'John Luther is back, and so is his coat. Luther: The Fallen Sun is now streaming on Netflix!!', along with a short clip of Luther standing on a London rooftop looking towards The Gherkin.
Fans were quick to express their excitement at the new release saying: 'It's a good day for #Luther fans...' and 'Will be watching this tonight 👌🍺', with a third saying: 'It’s Luther Day!! That’s my evening sorted 😍'.
Is there a trailer for the Luther movie?
There sure is! On Thursday 9th February, Netflix dropped a two-minute, 13 second trailer for Luther: The Fallen Sun.
Netflix captioned the action-packed trailer with: 'In Luther: The Fallen Sun — an epic continuation of the award-winning television saga reimagined for film — a gruesome serial killer is terrorizing London while brilliant but disgraced detective John Luther (Idris Elba) sits behind bars. Haunted by his failure to capture the cyber psychopath who now taunts him, Luther decides to break out of prison to finish the job by any means necessary. The film also stars Cynthia Erivo, Andy Serkis and Dermot Crowley, who returns as Martin Schenk.

What is Luther: The Fallen Sun about?
Luther: The Fallen Sun is a continuation of the award-winning television saga reimagined for film, however there are some changes to the plot of the TV show, which fans might notice.

As well as Idris Elba playing the role of main character John Luther, the film also stars Cynthia Erivo, Andy Serkis and Dermot Crowley, who returns as Martin Schenk.
Speaking at the BAFTAs back in 2020, Idris confirmed the Luther film would be happening, saying: "It is happening.
"I've maintained that I'd like to see it come to a film. That's what I think we're headed towards, a film. I'm looking forward to making that happen."
