The series will be split into two parts

ITV bosses have announced a brand new two-part series of hit show DNA Journey will return to our TV screens next month, with a new bunch of celebrities eager to find out their family histories.

The new series will be split into two parts, with one airing in the Spring, and another in Autumn.

In April celebs such as Dancing On Ice's Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, Maureen Lipman and Rula Lenska, and The Chase stars Anne Hegerty and Shaun Wallace will take part.

It's also been confirmed that comedians Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan will team up for the second part of the series, as well as Gavin & Stacey stars Alison Steadman and Larry Lamb, and TV presenters Alison Hammond and Kate Garraway.

Joel Dommett and Tom Allen will also feature on an episode together.

In case you missed the last series, which aired back in March 2021, the show allows celebs to delve into their family histories with cutting edge technology and genealogy to uncover the truth behind their bloodlines.

ITV Head of Entertainment Commissioning Katie Rawcliffe said: “DNA Journey is an enthralling combination of heart-warming, emotional and high octane all at the same time, and it’s great to welcome some of TV’s favourite faces onto the show to delve deeper into their family histories and secrets.”

ITV Commissioning Editor Louise Major added: “Everyone has a desire to learn more about where they come from and to be able to share this personal experience with some of our favourite faces is so special and a real treat in the mid-week schedule.”

Series one featured famous faces including Freddie Flintoff and Jamie Redknapp, Amanda Holden, and Alan Carr and Martin and Roman Kemp, as well as Geordie duo Ant and Dec.

Unbelievably, Ant and Dec actually found out they are actually related on the series!

When one of Dec's cousins handed the 44-year-old an envelope, the popular pair found out they share a S660 DNA marker, meaning they are related in an incredibly distant way.

Commenting on the new series, Kathleen Larkin, Executive Producer at Voltage TV, said: "It’s always a treat to see our celebrity pairings as you’ve never seen them before. In this series, they face particularly emotional revelations…which always end with an uplifting resolution that warms the heart."

A spokesperson at Mitre Studios said: “The great joy of DNA Journey is that our stars have no idea where their trip is going to take them. It's an absorbing, involving, voyage of discovery with a secret surprise or twist in every turn.”

Although there's no start date just yet, DNA Journey will return to ITV in April.
