The team that first brought us the iconic 90s cop drama The Bill, have teamed up on a new crime drama for the BBC. And guess what, they shot and filmed the project here in Northern Ireland.

Hope Street takes place in a fictional seaside town called Port Devine, along the coast of Northern Ireland.

It stars The Night Of’s Amara Khan as English Detective Constable Alimah Kahn, the first Muslim police officer in the town’s history.

The cast also includes Brid Brennan (Brooklyn), Des McAleer (The Crown) and Ciaran McMenamin (Primeval).

According to the BBC, the series will "celebrate the warm-hearted and good-humoured people of the town — as they build a future together rather than dwelling on the differences of the past".

Filming took place in the Co Down village of Donaghadee earlier this year.

This series follows a long list of award-winning crime dramas filmed here in Northern Ireland. Jamie Dornan and Gillian Anderson of course first brought us The Fall back in 2013.

ITV’s Marcella was filmed around Belfast and Larchfield Estate during the spring and summer of 2019.

James Nesbitt broke NI TV history with approximately 319,000 people from Northern Ireland alone tuning in to watch the first episode of BBC One’s Bloodlands.

And of course, we haven’t forgotten about Line of Duty. The BBC said it was the most watched episode of any drama since modern records began in 2002.

There’s something very special about the film and TV projects that are written, produced and filmed here in Northern Ireland.
