The traditional route for artists to make it in the music industry has transitioned in the last few years. Many any now choose to share their music on TikTok and other online platforms in the hope of going viral.

One guy did just that, meet Nathan Evans, a 26-year-old postman and aspiring musician from outside Glasgow.

Despite only releasing his first sea shanty video last December 2020, Nathan has kickstarted a movement for merchant melodies. He now has over a million followers and signed his first record deal earlier this year with Universal’s Polydor Records.

Cool Breakfast’s Pete Snodden recently caught up with Nathan over zoom, to see how he’s coping with his overnight success and to find out what’s next?

“I know, that is absolutely ridiculous. It’s crazy to see all of this happening, it’s amazing because everybody is smiling and everybody is dancing, that’s all I care about.”
