The Killers Top Poll of Weirdest Song Lyrics

Beating The Beatles and Carly Rae Jepsen to the dubious title

Published 1st Aug 2014

The Killers’ 2008 hit ‘Human’ has topped a poll of the weirdest song lyrics of all time.

The Las Vegas rockers’ almost nonsensical line “are we human or are we dancer?” was found to be the most confusing lyrics ever in a survey of 2000 people carried out by online streaming service Blinkbox Music.

In second spot is The Beatles’ trippy line "I am the eggman, they are the eggmen, I am the walrus, goo goo g'joob" from 1967’s ‘I Am The Walrus’, while Michael Jackson’s ‘Earth Song’ is in third thanks to the poignant question "What about elephants? Have we lost their trust?"

Elsewhere Carly Rae Jepsen’s ‘Call Me Maybe’ is in fifth spot ("Before you came into my life, I missed you so bad") and Taylor Swift’s ‘Love Story’ is down at no.9 ("Cause you were Romeo, I was a scarlet letter, and my daddy said stay away from Juliet").

Killers frontman Brandon Flowers has previously revealed that the ‘Human’ lyrics were inspired by the Hunter S Thompson quote “we're raising a generation of dancers.”

He said: "I took it and ran. I guess it bothers people that it's not grammatically correct, but I think I'm allowed to do whatever I want."

Blinkbox managing director Mark Bennett said: “It's true that song lyrics are sometimes as crazy as a box of frogs, but then that's show business. It would be a really boring world if everything was logical and made sense.”

The Top 10 weirdest song lyrics are as follows:

1. The Killers 'Human' "Are we human, or are we dancer?"
