Fresh from conquering the UK charts, Ed Sheeran has stormed to the top of the US Billboard 200 Albums Chart with ‘X’.

The unstoppable flame-haired singer sold an impressive 210,000 copies of ‘X’ in its first week to secure the top spot – the largest debut for a pop act Stateside this year!

An ecstatic Ed wrote on Twitter: “Had my first #1 album in America this week. Thanks for everyone supporting it, that's mental x”

Ed’s previous album ‘+’ sold 42,000 copies in its first week back in 2011 to peak at number five in America.

Close behind Ed on the chart is Sam Smith who remains for a second week at number two with ‘In The Lonely Hour’.

With Ed and Sam at one and two respectively, it marks the first time in more than 20 years that British solo artists have held the top two spots on the chart.

Ed plays T in the Park next weekend before heading to North America later in the summer for an extensive tour.
