The Top 50 films kids should see before they grow up have been revealed, but how many have you seen?

E.T., Toy Story, and Star Wars: A New Hope are just three of the 50 films that all children should watch before the age of 11 according to experts.

This top 50 has been created by film education charity Into Film who specialise in curating film content and developing teaching resources for schools across the UK. According to industry experts these films are 'must see' films because of the ideas, themes and discussion they might spark.

Talk about the campaign television presenter Denise Van Outen said, "Nothing beats movie night in our family. I love watching my daughter Betsy become totally absorbed in a storyline.

"I’m certain film’s ability to take us to far off places and other worlds helps children develop empathy and imagination."

Linked to five over-arching themes - Thrills & Chills, Adventure, Heroes & Villains, Kids Rule! and Classics, over 3000 family films were reduced to just 50 after much discussion. Here is an example from each of the themes.

Thrills & Chills - Star Wars: A New Hope (1977)

Adventure - Toy Story (1995)

Heroes & Villains - Frozen (2013)

Kids Rule! - E.T. The Extra Terrestrial (1982)

Classics - Dumbo (1941)

All 50 films will be available to purchase this year from retailers, so if you missed out on watching them first time round this is your chance to bag a copy - whatever age you are!
