Popular YouTube star and TV presenter Adam Beales from Derry has come out as gay.

Sharing a video on social media yesterday, the former Blue Peter presenter proudly waved an LGBTQIA+ flag, with the words: “I am happy now ❤️"

Sitting beside his parents and younger brother in the video, Adam shared how grateful he was to have such a supportive family.

He said: "One thing I love about these guys is, that when I told them, nothing changed." Adam's parents quickly replied with: "Well why should it."

Adam added: "I have the best support, my mum and my dad are not only the best mum and dad, they're amazing mentors, best friends and generally the best people.

Adam also opened up that he has a boyfriend, meanwhile his mum joked that she's stuck with another boy around the house.

Adam finishes the video with a heartfelt message to his followers and fans. He said: "I guess after all of this, I don't know what you're going to think, I don't know what you're going to say, but I wouldn't have done what I'm doing right now if I was still living in fear.

"Love should never mean having to live in fear. This is the most vulnerable I've ever felt in a long time, and you know what, it's the best I've ever felt in my entire life.

"This weight on my shoulders feels like it's finally been lifted, I can finally breathe. Someone said to me at the start of my journey, they said I deserved to be happy. I'm happy now."

Fans online have been sharing their love for Adam's emotional video.

One wrote: "I’m crying omg, as someone whose been watching your videos since I was a kid, seeing how far you’ve come, not just with YouTube but with your blue Peter journey I couldn’t be more proud of and happy for you :). You’ve inspired me in so many ways and I hope your boyfriend treats you right and that you’re happy together <3"

And another replied: "Grew up on this guy, and to see that he is living his true self makes me so happy. I hope to do this as well, and after watching this I feel even more inspired. Proud of you Adam ❤"
