Incredible news! Disney Pixar has confirmed that Buzz, Woody and all the gang motley crew are returning to cinema screens in Toy Story 4!

Disney supremo Bob Iger has confirmed that the movie will be released in 2017 and will be directed by John Lasseter – the genius behind the first two films.

"We love these characters so much; they are like family to us," Lasseter said.

"We don't want to do anything with them unless it lives up to or surpasses what's gone before."

The plot for the fourth instalment has been devised with Lasseter together with a dream team of Wall-E/Finding Nemo director Andrew Stanton, Up director Pete Docter and Toy Story 3 director Lee Unkrich.

Lasseter added: "When Andrew, Pete, Lee and I came up with this new idea, I just could not stop thinking about it. It was so exciting to me, I knew we had to make this movie - and I wanted to direct it myself."

Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger said: "John created Toy Story and directed the first two films, and it's great to have him back directing one of our most valuable properties."

Toy Story 3 was the highest grossing animated film of all time upon its release in 2010 raking in over $1billion at the global box office. However, it was overtaken by the $1.275billion grossing Frozen last year.

The fourth film will be released 22 years after the ground-breaking Toy Story was released in 1995.
