After his team announced earlier this month that he'd been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer, dancer and choreographer Michael Flatley has taken to his social media accounts to update his loyal fan base.

The 64-year-old shared a photo of himself on Instagram, giving a health update by saying: 'Thank you to everyone around the world for your love and prayers . I am overwhelmed by your kindness. I have been released from hospital and am on the mend. 🙏🏻'. (sic)

Michael's fans and friends were quick to comment on the post, with former footballer Shay Given writing: 'Well done Michael , keep fighting 💪'.

A fan then wrote: 'The best news for today! 😍❤️ I'm so grateful for you! 🙏💐', with another adding: 'So so happy to read this! God bless! ❤️'. (sic)

A third then added: 'Michael that’s great news. Holding you high in my thoughts. There’s a lot of love out there for you, I’m sure Many agree. Please rest well❤️🙏❤️'. (sic)

Michael's team released a statement on his behalf last week, revealing Michael had been diagnosed with an 'aggressive form of cancer' which he'd undergone surgery for.

The statement read: 'Dear friends, we have something personal to share, Michael Flatley has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. He has undergone surgery and is in the care of an excellent team of doctors. No further comments will be made at this time. We ask only for your prayers and well wishes. Thank you. 🙏🏻 Teamlord'. Michael was diagnosed with malignant melanoma back in 2003, revealing his battle eight years ago for the first time. However, it's unknown if the recent diagnosis is linked to this.

According to reports, the Lord of the Dance star was diagnosed with an unspecified type of cancer before Christmas last month.

We are sending Michael our thoughts and wish him a speedy recovery.
