It has been announced that singer Lady Gaga will portray the role of Cilla Black in a new film based on the life of Dionne Warwick.

The news, which was announced at the Cannes Film Festival, may come as a shock to fans as Lady Gaga is known for her unusual fashion and isn't actually from the UK.

However, the singer is keen to expand on her acting career after she starred in American Horror Story back in 2015.

The film will be based on Dionne Warwick’s autobiography and will focus mainly on her career in the earlier 1960’s.

Cilla and Dionne were known as arch enemies after the success of the Liverpool star's rendition of 'Anyone Who Had A Heart', a song which had originally been released by Dionne in 1963.

After the film was announced on Friday morning (13th May) at the Cannes Film Festival, the 75-year-old admitted she had a problem with the late Cilla “because she stole my music”.

Cilla sadly passed away at the age of 72 in 2015.

LeToya Luckett will play the role of Dionne whilst Danny Glover has been lined up to portray her father.

Filming is set to begin in October with a release date yet to be announced.
