Pop star Kesha has shocked fans after she has announced a postponement of her 'Rainbow' tour in Australia and New Zealand.

The 'Timber' singer took to social media to reveal that she suffered an injury to her leg recently and as a result will need some surgery. In a statement she said, 'I'm heartbroken to be forced to postpone some of my upcoming international dates due to a recent injury I sustained while performing.'

Kesha continued, 'It's my biggest joy in life to share my music with my fans all over the world, but I have to follow my doctors orders and undergo surgery to repair my torn ACL so I can get ready to give it all on my Summer tour and beyond.'

In the caption she continued, 'Moving these dates is making me sick with sadness, but I tried to will this injury away and unfortunately it didn't work. I love you all and I’ll work every single day as hard as i can to recover and get back on stage as soon as possible. I’m so sorry and sending love always ❤️.'

In the statement Kesha reveals she has torn her ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament). According to the NHS website a torn ACL is a fairly common sports injury and can be extremely painful. It can happen when the someone lands incorrectly from a jump or suddenly changing direction.

Meanwhile, on Twitter fans also sent messages of encouragement saying, 'I'm so sorry babe 😔😔 praying for a quick recovery 🙏🏼'.

Kesha was due to start the Australian leg of her world tour in March, before continuing to New Zealand and returning to Australia.

Last month Kesha took to the stage at the GRAMMYs for the first time. The singer was also nominated for two awards, Best Pop Solo Performance and Best Pop Vocal Album - for her comeback album 'Rainbow' - but sadly she lost out in both categories to Ed Sheeran.

2017 was a big year for Kesha when she made a big comeback with her song 'Praying' which was the lead single from her third studio album 'Rainbow'.
