She teases a big name duet too

Ellie Goulding says she is “happy and excited” about the musical direction of her third studio album.

Although work on the follow-up to 2012’s triple Platinum ‘Halcyon Days’ is still in its embryonic stages, Ellie says she’s thrilled with what she has done so far.

Speaking at the press Q&A at the Bacardi Triangle music event in Puerto Rico, Ellie was asked what the new material sounds like.

"It's kind of hard to tell at the moment,” she said. “I've done a few songs that I'm really, really happy with.

"I kind of don't want to give it away so soon! I feel like if I start talking about it now, I'll put it in my own head and it'll affect the process.

"I'm excited about the direction. I think it's easy to do something new and crazy, but I don't really overthink it when I get in the studio. I start a lot of stuff on guitar and I always have someone who plays piano with me.

"I have such an affinity with electronic music, classical music and folk music that so much stuff comes into it. All I'd like to say really is that I'm really happy and excited about the direction."

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Ellie also teased there is an “old school” duet with a unnamed male singer.

"There's a couple of male singer-songwriters that I'm really excited about," Ellie explained. "We'll probably be old-school and do a male-female duet.

"I've done a few songs that I'm pretty happy with. I play the guitar, too - I'm really happy and excited by that."

The Bacardi Triangle gig on Saturday night saw Ellie perform alongside Calvin Harris and Kendrick Lamar in the Bermuda Triangle!
