Depression didn't kill Robin Williams, says widow

Speaking in her first interview since his death

Robin Williams' widow says it wasn't depression that led the comic to kill himself.

Susan Williams, who married the actor in 2011, says they were living in a nightmare in the months leading up to his death adding she felt like her ‘best friend was sinking’.

In one of her first interviews she’s admitted she’s been trying to understand why he did it.

Despite the public speculation she says it wasn’t depression that killed him and he was clean and sober, so it wasn’t drugs or alcohol.

The Mrs Doubtfire actor had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and also showed symptoms of dementia with Lewy bodies, which can affect memory and movement.

It can even affect vision as Susan recalls stepping out the shower and seeing him with blood on his head looking dazed, because he’d miscalculated where the door was.

She says the 63-year-old knew he was losing his mind and knew he was deteriorating; by killing himself he was taking some of that power back.

Susan admitted he might have had three rough years ahead of him had he not died.

When he couldn’t be revived, she was allowed to see him and apparently told him that she forgave him ’50 billion percent’ and that he was the bravest man she knew.
