Strictly's Amy Dowden says latest cancer check-up showed 'no signs of disease'
She's updated her fans
Following on from finishing her final round of chemotherapy in November last year, after being diagnosed with breast cancer, Strictly Come Dancing favourite Amy Dowden has now given another positive update about her health.
33-year-old Amy took to her Instagram page over the weekend to confirm her latest check-up showed no evidence of disease, and although she won't get given the all clear for five years, the professional dancer is over the moon with the news.
She told fans: 'NO EVIDENCE OF DISEASE! Words I dreamed of! My biggest accomplishment yet! 🙏🎀.
'I won’t be getting the all clear for 5 years especially with a hormone fed cancer. But it was all worth it. Words I never thought I’d hear at one point.
'So grateful for all the care I received and continue to have.
'To my husband, family and friends who supported me unconditionally and to you guys! Thank you! 💖🙏'. (sic)
Amy went on to reveal she will need continuous treatment for the next five years, adding: 'I will still need a monthly injection for 5 years and regular check ups.
'Chemo and this past year has certainly took its toll on my body both physically and mentally, so I’ll be taking the next few months to heal and recover.
'I have so much to strive and live for, and so grateful for another chance at life! Something I know not all get. I certainly see life differently and my life has changed forever!
'Cancer affects too many so I will continue to do all I can to raise awareness and make sure I get as many as I can to #checkthemselves.
'It’s time to look ahead after what’s been the toughest year, and one I certainly didn’t expect!
'Dance floor I’m coming for you! Welsh love always, Amy x 💃🏼 #ididit #breastcanceryoung #mybiggestaccomplishment #breastcancer #mycancerjourney #checkyourchest #grateful #gograblife #raisingawareness #chemo #roadtorecovery #dreamingofdancingagain'. (sic)
Amy was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in May last year, with the dancer going on to reveal doctors had found a second form of cancer in her body in July, meaning she wouldn't be able to take part in the 2023 series of Strictly Come Dancing.
The 33-year-old has documented her tough journey on social media over the last year, revealing she'd also suffered from sepsis, as well as breaking her foot towards the end of the year.
Amy has been praised by fans for bravely being open about her diagnosis, with cancer charities also praising her for proudly showing off her shaved head on TV and at red carpet events.
Although nothing has been confirmed just yet, it's understood Amy hopes to return to her role on Strictly later in the year.
It was announced last month that Amy's show Dare to Dance has been commissioned for a second series.
The series follows Amy as she returns to coach inspirational individuals ending with a special dance routine to surprise their friends and family.
Speaking about the new series, Amy said: "I am so delighted Dare To Dance is back! When I dance, I feel like I can overcome anything. It’s something I want more people to experience, I really believe it can change your life.
"I was never going to let my diagnosis get in the way of what I love most and I am thrilled that my wonderful dance family could step in to ensure my wonderful students blew their family and friends away with their performance."
