When is the best time to put up your Christmas tree?
Is there a right or wrong answer? 🎄
Last updated 9th Nov 2021
November is a pretty miserable month - it’s definitely getting colder, you’re bored of pumpkin spice lattes, and the colourful autumn leaves are quickly turning grey.
There are two types of people this time of year, those that want to spread Christmas cheer from Nov 1st and those that are Scrooge and refuse to even think about Christmas until Dec 24th.
But is there such a thing as a ‘perfect time’ to decorate your home for Christmas?
Tradition dictates that Christmas trees should be put up at the beginning of Advent, the fourth Sunday before Christmas, which this year falls on November 28th.
Some would say it’s unlucky to put it up before this date, whereas others would suggest erecting your tree more than 12 days before Christmas is unlucky, too.
If you're buying a real Christmas tree, it’s advised that trees should not be purchased earlier than 1st December. Why? The tree should survive for at least four weeks if properly cared for.
The second Saturday in December has been dubbed 'Bring Your Christmas Tree Home Day', as historically there’s an influx of shoppers buying real trees.
According to a previous Tesco Christmas Insights Report (2018) age has an important factor to play in this argument.
- The 18-34 age group are more excitable, putting their Christmas trees up earlier (Mid-Nov)
- The 34-55 age group get in the festive mood by decorating homes in early December
- Over-55s tend to be stick to the 12 days before Christmas tradition
You just can’t win!
If you ask us what we think…you’re the one that has to look at them, so dig out the decorations from the attic whenever you feel like it! 🎄
