Jack’s Story

Jack is nine years old and has undiagnosed condition. He has no speech or mobility and has severe learning disabilities. Jack is fed via a tube and has hypoglycaemia and duplex kidneys.

Throughout his life he has had several major operations. Jack and his family travel back and forward to Great Ormond Street in London every ten weeks to get rods lengthened in his back. They will have to keep going with this until Jack stops growing and then he will have to undergo major surgery.

Jack loves going out for walks, he loves Buses and Lorries and anything with wheels on it, he loves books and getting read stories.

Maura, Jack’s mum says:

“He’s a real wee character and laughs constantly. He loves his four big brothers and has them all wrapped round his wee finger. He loves to bounce on the trampoline with them and high fives them and shouts for their attention and they just treat him like they do each other which is lovely.”

Cash for Kids have provided funding to support Jack with a Buddy Roamer and a scoot seat.

“The Buddy Roamer gives Jack so much independence and he loves it so much. Thanks again for funding this for Jack, means the world to us seeing him walk and enjoy life so much.

The scoot seat opened up a whole new world to Jack as it gave him access to move around the floor and play with his toys at floor level. He zooms around in it outside and it’s easily transported so we can take it on holidays and to the grandparents’ house. He also uses it in school to allow him to get out of his wheelchair and moves around with the other kids so he's exercising his muscles and getting some freedom.”

This Cash for Kids Day we will be raising as much as we possibly can to support thousands of disadvantaged children all over Northern Ireland.

We will be celebrating our work over the last ten years while focusing on the current support needs of disadvantaged children and young people in Northern Ireland today.

The funds raised on Cash for Kids Day will help to provide a brighter future as well as create opportunities for children and young people to fulfil their potential. We want to help make a real difference to the lives of these children and their families.
