MAFS UK: Nelly and Steven officially leave experiment
Things didn't end well!
Last updated 10th Nov 2025
Neelima 'Nelly' Patel and Steven Springett seemed to have an instant spark during their wedding day on series 10 of Married At First Sight UK. The pair, who were matched together by experts Paul C. Brunson, Charlene Douglas and Mel Schilling, were first introduced during the second episode on Monday 22nd September, with viewers instantly falling in love with the two.
However, as their MAFS UK journey has played out, things quickly took a sour turn, with Nelly taking off her ring and declaring her marriage is 'over', following a tense Home Stays week. Now the pair have officially left the experiment, here we take a look back on their turbulent journey.
What happened on their wedding day?
Nelly made a grand entrance to her wedding with Steven, opting for a traditional Indian-style ceremony, where she was carried in a Doli carriage adorned with flowers, wearing a stunning red dress.
As Steven turned around to set eyes on his new wife for the first time, sparks seemed to fly immediately, with the pair looking very happy with one another. After saying their vows and sharing a kiss at the altar, Nelly and Steven headed off hand-in-hand to enjoy the rest of their day with their friends and family.
After Nelly's friends chatted to Steven's brother and sister, they were made aware he had two children, but they allowed Steven time to tell his new bride the news in his own time.
Later in the day, the pair sat down for a candid chat, where Nelly said: “You’ve made me just feel really, really comfortable, and I just want you to know that you can always be honest with me.”
Steven replied: “So, obviously we’re both family orientated?”
To which Nelly said: “Yeah.”
Steven then said: “What I need is to tell you. I wanted to bring it up sooner. I needed to find the right moment. Alone time, away from sort of families, just me and you. So I’m a dad. Got two kids.”
Nelly replied: “I’m glad that you could share that with me," with Steven adding:“Obviously, they are sorting my world kind of thing.”
What happened on their honeymoon?
Nelly and Steven headed off Montego Bay in Jamaica for their honeymoon, and the good vibes from their wedding day continued throughout! The pair seemed very comfortable with each other, enjoying lots of kissing and physical touch.
During a chat, Nelly confessed to Steven she'd never lived with a partner before, and also opened up about her previous three partners being unfaithful to her. However, she was put at ease when Steven told her he'd never cheated in the past.
Whilst enjoying dinner together on their final night, Steven and Nelly gushed about what an amazing time they'd had, with Steven gifting Nelly with a cute little present - a photo of the pair and the cork from the first bottle of champagne they ever popped.
Did they move in together?
They did, Nelly and Davide moved into their MAFS apartment together and attended the first dinner party hand-in-hand. Nelly revealed she's never lived with a guy before, admitting that now they are in the real world she's apprehensive to see how things go.
What happened during the first commitment ceremony?
Following a successful wedding and honeymoon, Nelly and Steven looked very cosy together as they sat on the couch to speak to the experts. The pair confirmed how well things were going, but Nelly did confess how she often looks for the 'bad things' and does need constant reassurance.
The pair both chose to stay, revealing they are on the path to falling for each other.
What happened at the second dinner party?
Things took a sour turn for Nelly and Steven during the second dinner party, after a number of the cast accused Steven of bragging about having sex with a celebrity two weeks before he started the experiment.
Despite denying it to Nelly, Julia-Ruth and Maeve revealed all, before he got angry and told the group to "f--k off", as well as calling them "c----."
Steven also lost respect when he chose to stay out all day instead of going back to his wife after learning she'd broken her rib following a fall.

What happened during the second commitment ceremony?
Following the turbulent dinner party, Nelly and Steven sat down for a chat with the experts during the second commitment ceremony.
Describing what happened when they got back to their apartment after the dinner party, Nelly revealed they argued and Steven ended the conversation by calling her a "f---ing idiot," much to the shock of the experts.
Steven got emotional whilst talking about the ill health of his stepdad, revealing he wasn't able to pay full attention to his marriage. The experts were quick to tell him that his behaviour has impacted Nelly's insecurities, with Nelly admitting the week has been 'hell'.
Allowing himself to be vulnerable, Steven confessed he is the person she saw on the honeymoon, telling her he 'really likes her' and that he is willing to fight for their relationship.
Despite admitting her decision had been 50/50 and everything in her body was telling her to run, Nelly wanted to give her husband a chance to show her he did care, also choosing to stay.
Taking to Instagram to explain her decision, Nelly said: 'This last commitment ceremony was a difficult one for us.
'Although I hated seeing Steven cry, it was the first time I’d seen him show me a more emotional side. Seeing that other side to him wasn’t easy - and it came after behaviour that no one should ever have to tolerate in a marriage. But he assured me that it wasn’t the real him. That the real Steven was the one I met on our wedding day, the one I grew close to on our honeymoon, and I didn’t want to throw something potentially magical away.
'So I took a big risk, decided to give him the benefit of the doubt, and fight for our marriage. Seeing that vulnerable side gave me hope that maybe, just maybe, we could build again and find our way back to where we were just a couple of weeks ago. 🤍
'I chose to stay, and to show up for our marriage.
'To everyone following my journey: I promised to be real and raw throughout this experiment with you all. This is me sharing how I truly felt in that moment, and staying honest to the process ✨
'Thank you all for your support, and for allowing me to be so open with you xxx'. (sic)
What happened at the third commitment ceremony?
After a tough previous week, Nelly and Steven told the experts things had been better, but there were still issues present for the pair.
Speaking to the experts, Nelly admitted there's been times when her feelings have been minimalised, with expert Paul calling Steven out for being the 'master of deflection'.
Revealing he thanked Paul for his words, Steven wrote on social media: 'Absolutely loved @paulcbrunson for this as well. Because, after that moment the lightbulb went on. I didn’t feel like I had much advice prior to this commitment ceremony & I’ve said it for many years, if I’m not pulling my weight or doing something wrong just call me out and tell me plain and simple. I thank Paul for that 💙'. (sic)
Following their time on the couch, Nelly and Steven chose to stay.
What happened at the fourth commitment ceremony?
After a rocky couple of weeks, Nelly and Steven confessed things were on the up, but Nelly did express her concerns that co-star Julia-Ruth 'fancies' Steven.
Nelly called out Julia-Ruth for allegedly saying she wanted to stay in the experiment a few weeks more so she could 'couple swap' with Steven, something which she denied.
When it came to the decision, Nelly and Steven confirmed they've taken things back to the start and were in a really good place, both choosing to stay.
What happened at the fifth commitment ceremony?
Confirming it had been a 'testing week' where the pair endured a number of 'petty arguments', Nelly and Steven chatted to the experts about their issues.
Nelly admitted she didn't feel supported by her husband during her disagreement with co-star Julia-Ruth, with Steven saying he didn't want to get involved because he wanted the pair to talk things out.
Expert Charlene also called Steven out for not reassuring Nelly, something he admitted he's not great and confirmed he needs to communicate more.
When it came to the decision, Nelly said it feels like the pair are just co-existing, admitting their current relationship isn't enough for her, but she chose to stay. Steven revealed he would 'stay for now', but if things continued in the same way he would be leaving next week.
What happened at the fifth commitment ceremony?
The pair spoke in depth to the experts about the drama that occurred during Home Stays week, with Steven admitting partner swap week was the point he realised his relationship with Nelly wasn't going to work.
Nelly showed the experts her receipts from his dating profile, but Steven was quick to deny the claims.
Following the chat, both Nelly and Steven chose to leave the show.
When did they leave the show?
Despite not originally travelling to Manchester with his wife for Home Stays week, Steven later showed up, revealing to Nelly he'd had time to clear his head. During a chat with Nelly's flat mate Lucy, things quickly went from bad to worse for the pair, when she seemingly exposed that he'd been using dating app Hinge whilst on the show.
Showing a photo of his active profile from that day, a bewildered Steven was quick to deny the claims, revealing he's actually locked out of his account.
However, not believing him, Nelly removed her ring and told producers she felt her marriage was now over.
After the episode aired on Sunday 2nd November, Steven took to Instagram to deny the claims further.
As well as commenting on the MAFS UK Instagram video with: '@hinge you’re welcome for the free advertisement 😉 thanks for all your support over the years as well. But thankfully, you retired me from the app back in 2023', Steven has also provided his own receipts to try and prove his innocence.
Sharing a selection of emails and screenshots from his deactivated Hinge account, Steven wrote: 'Now, instead of making it look like I was deleting the profile, show the 'audience' the actual event of me downloading the app, trying to sign in to it and the message that came up. Or does that not fit your narrative?
'Let the people know, when the marriage had actually ended as well'.
Going on to slam Nelly's friend Lucy, Steven then wrote: ''Doing investigating all week', but you didn't know whether I was going to Manchester or not though Lucy, so how and why would you investigate all week - or was you in fact told I wasn't going and the reason why and decided to say I matched up with your friend that day travelling up so conveniently, and edit my photo over someone called Steven's verified account.
'Because if I had just downloaded Hinge and set up a new profile - it would say 'new here' next to my name - which it didn't'. (sic)
Are Nelly and Steven still together?
No, the couple split up officially during the final commitment ceremony on the show.

During the episode on Sunday 9th November, Julia-Ruth announced she'd been exchanging flirty messages with Steven, after slipping in his DM's after noticing he'd been viewing her Instagram Stories.
Speaking to the girls, Julia-Ruth accused Steven of asking her out for a date, but when approached by the boys and Leah, he revealed he meant in a group setting. Despite going on to deny he'd sent any flirty messages to JR, she had receipts from their conversation!

Following the extent of his injuries, Steven had extensive reconstructive surgery and admits his outlook on life has changed since the attack.

After ending their marriage at the fifth dinner party, Maeve once again attended the commitment ceremony alone, where she was greeted with a letter from Joe. After admitting she'd found friendship but not a husband, Maeve left the experiment.
Sarah and Dean: LEFT EXPERIMENT
Wedding day:
31-year-olds Sarah and Dean were matched together by the experts. Things didn't get off to the best starts when they first met, with Sarah not happy that the experts didn't listen to her usual type. Things got even more awkward when Dean decided to perform a rap during the ceremony, before later bursting out into a song he'd written about his wife later in the day. Sarah confessed her worries to the camera, admitting she gets 'friend vibes' from Dean.
Honeymoon:
Things seemed to go from bad to worse for Sarah and Dean as they jetted off to The Maldives on their honeymoon. As well as Dean's singing outbursts annoying her, she brutally confessed she wasn't physically attracted to her new husband, going to to tell producers he would need 'tattoos and to lose weight' before she fancied him.
First commitment ceremony:
After a telling-off from the experts about her 'rude' and 'disrespectful' comments towards Dean, the pair both chose to stay, with Sarah admitting she really wants things to work out.
Second commitment ceremony:
Although they endured their first argument, both Sarah and Dean chose to stay.
Third commitment ceremony:
Despite admitting they wanted to give things another week and both writing 'stay', following honest feedback from the experts, Sarah and Dean chose to leave the experiment, with Dean thanking Sarah for her honesty.
Anita and Paul: LEFT EXPERIMENT
Wedding day:
54-year-old Anita and 60-year-old Paul were the final couple from this year's series to get married. Upon meeting at the altar, Anita didn't seem too thrilled with her new husband, telling producers he wasn't the silver fox she was hoping for, but she did want to get to know him more. During their photoshoot, Anita was optimistic about their relationship when she discovered they'd both been married before, and both have older children.
Honeymoon:
Eager to get to know Paul better, Anita asked questions as they enjoyed a honeymoon in Cape Verde, but she was left disappointed when he admitted he didn't know what love is, leading her to question why he wanted to take part in the show. Anita expressed her frustration further when Paul failed to ask her any questions, admitting she feels like he doesn't want to get to know her, and that she doesn't think he's ready for marriage. At the end of their honeymoon, Anita admitted to producers she doesn't think there's hope for their marriage.
First commitment ceremony:
After refusing to move in with Paul, the pair didn't go into the first commitment ceremony in the greatest of places. Anita chose to leave with no hope anything could be turned around, but because Paul chose to stay, the pair stayed for another week.
Second commitment ceremony:
Anita and Paul were unable to make things work, deciding to both leave the experiment during the second commitment ceremony. Although their romance didn't work out, they did confirm they've made a great friendship.
