About Planet Rock

Planet Rock is the largest rock radio station in the UK, playing rock music from the 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s and the present day.

We are available on DAB Digital Radio, on Freesat (Channel 730), on Sky (Channel 0110), on Virgin Media (Channel 924), online and via free iPhone, iPad and Android apps. All the Ways to Listen can be seen here.

Our current roster of DJs and shows includes Def Leppard's Joe Elliott on Saturday evenings, Nights with Alice Cooper during the week, Thunder frontman Danny Bowes every Sunday, and My Planet Rocks in which rock stars, authors, and various other personalities pick their favourite music every Sunday evening.

A Little Background

Planet Rock was founded in 1999 as the only classic rock radio station in the UK at that time.

Since 2006 Planet Rock has featured an array of rock star presenters who have either fronted limited run series or hosted long running weekly or monthly shows.

The station was based first at Swallow's Place in central London before it moved to the Capital Radio building in Leicester Square where it lived until 2008 when, threatened with closure, it was sold to Malcolm Bluemel and it moved once again to purpose built offices and studios in Marylebone, London.

Shock rocker Alice Cooper's radio show was broadcast as Breakfast With Alice Cooper, which ran in the 6-9am slot until 17 January 2011 when his show became Nights With Alice Cooper and broadcast every weeknight.

Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott, who has presented a weekly show since August 2010 can also be heard every Saturday night from 6pm.

A number of other star presenters have hosted shows on Planet Rock: Rick Wakeman hosted a Saturday morning show for five years until December 2010; the late Gary Moore hosted the award winning Blues Power series in 2008; Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi presented two series of Black Sunday for the station; Jethro Tull singer Ian Anderson presented a series called Under The Influence; Roxy Music guitarist Phil Manzanera presented two series for the station in 2007 and 2009 which looked at influential guitar players and guitar playing styles; Former Marillion frontman Fish hosted two series of the award winning Fish On Fridays; Thin Lizzy guitarist Scott Gorham hosted one series which aired in 2010; Europe singer Joey Tempest hosted a series on Sunday evenings until early 2011 and Francis Rossi of Status Quo who hosted a thirteen part series until June 2011.

In 2013, Planet Rock was bought by international media company Bauer Media. The Planet Rock team are now based at Bauer Radio's National HQ at One Golden Square, London.
