Where is Tate McRae from?
She's Canadian! Tate was born in Calgary, Alberta and lived in Oman between the ages of two and five before her family returned to Calgary, where she began taking dance lessons.
How old is she?
Her birthday is 1st July 2003, making her currently 22-years-old.
Which are her biggest songs?
Her most popular songs by YouTube views are: 'you broke me first', 'greedy', 'she's all i wanna be', 'exes', 'It's Ok I'm Ok', 'Just Keep Watching', 'Sports Car' and 'Revolving Door'. In the UK, most of these songs hit the Top 10 along with '10:35' with Tiësto.
How did she get famous?
Tate already had an advantage when it came to her musical talents, thanks to the fact that her mum, Tanja Rosner, was a dance instructor! She danced for fun from the age of about six, but started to spend more time on it after they returned to Canada from Oman when she was eight.
It was at this point that Tate took dancing "more seriously", with the singer telling Everly magazine in 2018: "I started dancing around the age of 6. It began as a hobby that I was definitely not seriously interested in. I loved performing, but hated when I actually had to do what I was told. I only started getting serious when my mom took me to New York at age 8."
She went to various dance schools - including the YYC run by her mum - before going on to train in ballet at the School of Alberta Ballet, the teaching institution for the Alberta Ballet Company.
Tate won at the 2013 Dance Awards, taking home the Mini Best Female Dancer award, she was a finalist in a 2014 Gala, won bronze and silver medals at the Youth America Grand Prix in 2015 and even performed in a music video by Walk Off The Earth. In 2016, she danced in a song during Justin Bieber's 'Purpose World Tour' gig in Calgary.
It was then in 2017 that Tate started to explore her vocal abilities, sharing videos of herself performing songs in her bedroom that she'd written herself. In particular, 'One Day' garnered millions of YouTube views, and was released when Tate was just 16-years-old. She signed with RCA Records in 2019 and released her EP 'All the Things I Never Said' in January 2020.
