About John Osborne
What are your top 3 favourite jazz albums of all time?
Herbie Hancock's 'Head Hunter', 'John Coltrane's' 'A Love Supreme' and finally Horace Silver's 'Song for My Father'.
What is your most memorable jazz gig?
Standing just a few feet away from Hugh Masekela performing at the 2015 Jazz FM Awards.
What is your favourite jazz story?
Having seen Kamasi Washington do an amazing set on the main stage at Love Supreme in 2017 we went off to grab a bite to eat before getting ready to see George Benson and Gregory Porter. Off we went only to bump into the giant figure of Kamasi Washington walking towards us eating a huge Baguette stuffed to the brim of various foods, we stopped to chat for a while, he told me that being on stage was always wonderful but he wanted to feel the vibe of the festival and meet the people so he’d come out for a stroll around. Lovely man.
What was your favourite album from 2019?
Ashley Henry - Beautiful Vinyl Hunter
If you were to choose the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ at the Jazz FM Awards, who would you give it to and why?:
Roy Ayers. His amazing and consistent body of work spans six decades. His compositions have made us dance and chill. He’s worked with a wide array of artists from many genres including Fela Kuti, Herbie Mann, Wayne Henderson and Erykah Badu. This living legend still continues to collaborate and explore.
