Yorkshire's drivers told to expect Easter delays
The RAC is expecting over 14 million Easter journeys over the bank holiday.
Motorists in Yorkshire are being warned to expect delays on the roads this Easter, despite efforts to reduce traffic.
National Highways said it has lifted over 850 miles of roadworks for the bank holiday, leaving 98 percent of England's motorway and major A road network free from roadworks - although this has not been possible in all cases.
Dave Wilson from National Highways in Yorkshire said: "There are a number of roadworks on the motorway network - on the M1 around Sheffield and Leeds that unfortunately we can't remove for the bank holiday weekend, so they may well become pinch points.
"Staycations have become more popular over the last few years, with more people heading to the coast and over to the North West to the Lake Districting making the M1, M62 and A64 extremely congested."
The RAC said it expects drivers to make more than 14 million leisure journeys over the Easter weekend, with holidaymakers advised to travel in the evening rather than during peak hours in the middle of the day.
Drivers have been asked to plan ahead to avoid a last-minute rush and a stressful start to the holidays.
Dave said: "If you're expecting to sit in traffic for half an hour or so you don't necessarily mind, you remove that frustration which ultimately leads to safer driving - it can make a huge difference."
National Highways said drivers should make sure they top up their fuel, oil and water, and check their tyres, wiper blades and make sure they are well rested before setting off.
