Plea from mum whose son died after being hit by driver under the influence in West Yorkshire
Plea from West Yorkshire mum, urging people to not get behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol or drugs
The mum of a Dewsbury man killed by a drink driver in West Yorkshire is making a heart-breaking plea not to get behind the wheel under the influence of drink or drugs this Christmas.
Adam Afsar, 34, and his best friend Jason Wilby, 27, died in 2018 when the car Adam was driving was hit by another car going the wrong way down a slip road of the M62 at the Chain Bar roundabout.
The driver of the other car was found to be twice the legal limit for alcohol and had also taken cocaine following a night out.
Adam’s mother, Christine said: "You can't describe what its like to lose a child, there's no explanation for it, there's no word to describe it, its just the worst feeling in your life."
She is urging people to think twice before they get behind the wheel under the influence over the festive period: "One pint can do it, one pint... it depends what mood you're in as well, and its like everything is a factor that leads up to it.
"It doesn't matter how angry you are or how determined you are to get home, just phone somebody."
It comes as West Yorkshire Police launches its annual Christmas drink drug drive awareness campaign.
Throughout December, Roads Policing Officers will be stepping up patrols and reminding people of the potentially fatal consequences of driving while under the influence.
