15 West Yorkshire fire crews on scene of wildfire in Marsden

We're being urged to avoid the area

Fifteen fire crews are currently tackling a large moorland blaze close to Marsden.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue says a command unit is also on scene near to Manchester Road, with flames first being reported at around 1:30pm this afternoon.

Crews are using blowers, beaters and offroad vehicles to try to get on top of the blaze, which has spread over an area of 10x5km.

In some places flames have reached over 1.5m in high.

Members of the public are being urged to avoid areas around the fire, including the Castleshaw upper reservoir, Pennine Way and Denshaw Moor.
