A Leeds man has been jailed for at least 34 years for murdering two of his housemates.
47-year-old Robert Jean stabbed to death 65-year-old Khaja Raisoddin Mohammed and 53-year-old Abdullah Mirzada on 30th September last year.
Police were called to a property in Harehills at 11.06am. Mr Mirzada was pronounced dead at the scene and Mr Mohammed died in hospital.
The defendant’s motive is not known, although it may have been related to arguments over rent arrears.
Jean, who had come to the UK from Haiti five years ago, was convicted of the murders by unanimous verdicts on Friday.
Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Superintendent Marc Bowes said: “Robert Jean brutally murdered Abdullah Mirzada and Khaja Raisoddin Mohammed in an appalling explosion of violence that was utterly senseless.
“He knew both men and had lived alongside them for some time. Whatever grievance he may have had with them cannot provide any justification for what he did.
“He is clearly a dangerous individual whose actions have left two families absolutely devastated and struggling to come to terms with the loss of their loved ones in such horrendous circumstances.
