A consultation has been launched on proposals to create a bus lane on a key route linking Leeds city centre to Hunslet.

The lane would be created on South Accommodation Road, with 15 buses using the route every hour.

It comes as at the moment congestion at the Atkinson Street Roundabout can lead to buses taking 20 minutes to travel just 500 metres.

Proposals also include signals being placed on the roundabout to ease the flow of traffic and the relocation of some pedestrian and cycle crossings.

Councillor Jonathan Pryor, Leeds City Council’s deputy leader, said:

“This scheme is another important step towards creating a transport system that reduces congestion, prioritises efficient bus travel and is part of our ongoing work to support sustainable travel, and make it easier for people to get around the city.

"We urge everyone that uses this route—whether you walk, cycle, drive, or take the bus—to take part in the consultation and share your views.”
