West Yorkshire Police wishes injured colleague well after Leeds collision
A police officer was run over after a car failed to stop in Leeds on Friday
West Yorkshire Police have wished one of their colleagues well after they were injured in a fail-to-stop incident in Leeds.
Officers had been patrolling Selby Road in the east of the city and had tried to tactically stop the driver of a car.
Several members of the force had been brought in to help with the operation, including those from the Proactive Intercept Team.
However, as police officers on foot approached the black Seat Ibiza, the car failed to stop and eventually reversed on top of the officer.
The man, who was holding on to one of the doors of the car, was eventually dragged along the ground as the car began to speed off, before disappearing under the car completely.
Emergency services were called to the scene to treat the officer as a police cordon was put in place following the incident.
The police officer was taken to hospital to receive medical treatment for his injuries, that were deemed not to be life-threatening.
Following this, the West Yorkshire Police Federation gave an update on the officer's condition, adding they were wishing him a speedy recovery.
Craig Nicholls, Chair of the Federation, said that he had personally spoken to the victim and he was receiving their unwavering support.
"Thankfully, he is in good spirits; however, this could have been a very different story," Nicholls added.
"It's a stark reminder of the unpredictability and inherent risks of our job. We step into potentially dangerous situations daily, never fully knowing what to expect."
Nicholls went on to say that "West Yorkshire Police officers remain dedicated to their mission - exemplifying resilience and courage in the face of adversity".
