Homes in Ilkley have been evacuated after an antique hand grenade was found at a property in the town.

Officers from West Yorkshire Police were alerted to a property on Hillside Close in Addingham at 3:51 on Friday afternoon (November 22nd).

Emergency services were called to the scene where they found the grenade as the residents of the house were clearing the property out.

A police cordon was put in place and nearby homes were temporarily evacuated as a precaution while members from the Army's bomb disposal team investigated.

In an update released on Saturday (November 23rd), West Yorkshire Police confirmed that the grenade was not live.

The cordon was eventually lifted at 6:30pm when the all-clear signal was given to officers from the Army.

The force went on to thank residents in the area "for their patience and understanding while the incident was brought to a safe conclusion".
