Police appeal for witnesses following large fight in Heckmondwike

Two large groups of youths were seen getting into fights on Friday evening

West Yorkshire Police are appealing for information and witnesses following a large affray in Heckmondwike.

Officers were first alerted to the incident that involved two large groups of youths fighting at around 10pm on Friday evening (March 1st).

Kirklees District Crime Incident Department attended the area where the fight was taking place, as the groups fled the scene on Dale Lane.

When responders arrived on the scene, one male was left behind with serious injuries, and was taken to hospital.

Police have now confirmed that a 16-year-old has received medical treatment in hospital after sustaining "non-life-threatening injuries" by a bladed weapon.

Since the incident, officers have been carrying out enquiries and have arrested two males aged 13 and 19 on suspicion of affray. Both have been questioned, but neither have been remanded in custody.

As well as this, investigations at the scene of the crime and in the surrounding areas are continuing, with officers from the nearby department in Batley and Spen conducting patrols around the area to reassure residents.

Now, officers are asking anyone with any information to get in touch with the force as soon as possible as they try to piece the event together.

In particular, anyone who may have some of the suspects fleeing the scene when first responders arrived at the scene is being urged to contact West Yorkshire Police at their earliest convience.
