Police have confirmed a 'large number' of gas canisters were found at the scene of an explosion in Halifax earlier this week.

Emergency services were called to Spring Hall Road/Coventry Street in the early hours of yesterday to reports of a blast.

It ripped the front off of one home, while also damaging other nearby properties.

Three people were injured and two men remain in hospital in a critical condition.

Detective Chief Inspector Clare Smith of West Yorkshire Police said: “We understand that there will be speculation in the community about what has happened and the cause of this explosion.

“We can confirm that a large number of butane gas cannisters were found in the property and these form part of our ongoing enquiries.

“We are working alongside specialist fire investigators to ensure a comprehensive investigation is carried out into this incident.”
