Gritter crashes on ice in Kirklees
We are being urged to be careful on toads around West Yorkshire, after a gritter crashed after skidding on ice.
Kirklees Council made the post on their Facebook - saying the driver was unharmed.
In the Facebook post the Council said:
"We’re all looking out for each other and staying safe in hazardous weather. ❄️
"Our gritter drivers are real winter heroes. They are out at all times of day and night, gritting and re-gritting roads so that many people as possible can access healthcare services, public transport, and schools as safely as possible. When they are the first vehicle to an icy stretch, they face some of the most hazardous conditions. That’s poor visibility, strong winds, and severe ice.
"We always prioritise the safety of our staff, but even with the greatest care, Mother Nature can be an unstoppable force!
"Thankfully, these drivers are safe and unharmed. But it’s a good reminder for us all to take extra care when travelling."
