A teenager who stabbed a 16 year old during a 'pre-arranged' fight in a Bradford park has been jailed.

17 year old Faaris Khalid, who can now be named after a judge lifted reporting restrictions, admitted to section 18 assault halfway through his trial.

It comes after a 16 year old suffered life changing injuries during a confrontation in Grosvenor Park on March 11 2023.

A number of young people had gathered at the park, with violence between rival groups.

Khalid approached the victim and stabbed him in the chest. He disposed of his phone and shaved his head in an attempt to cover his tracks.

He was handed a 5 year 4 month sentence at Bradford Crown Court yesterday, of which two thirds must be served in prison.

He was also sentenced for firearms and drugs offences, as well as for having a blade in a public place.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Superintendent Al Weekes, of West Yorkshire Police, said:

“We welcome the sentence handed down to Khalid today.

“Knives and other weapons have no place on our streets and today’s sentence shows the serious consequences of getting involved in criminality and carrying a knife.

“It was only through rapid medical intervention that the victim survived, the consequences could have been much worse.

“I would like to thank those witnesses that did come forward after the incident and urge the community to provide us with information about those who continue to carry weapons and participate in crime so that we can intervene to keep their children safe.

“I hope the sentence gives some comfort and justice to the victim in what has been a harrowing and lengthy ordeal over the past two years.”
