West Yorkshire non-league side Farsley Celtic are set to drop out of their current league, as the club carries out a 'strategic review' and ahead of a proposed takeover.

Earlier this month it was confirmed the current manager, ex-Sheffield Wednesday, Hull and Brighton man David Stockdale, would be taking control of the Northern Counties East Football League side.

The club has now announced it will not play in the ninth tier of English football during the 2025/26 season as it undergoes a 'transitional period'.

In a statement on the Farsley website, a spokesperson for the club wrote: "As a result of this decision, the Elite Talent Squad and the Academy & Education Programme have chosen to leave the Club ahead of the 2025/26 season."

"While this is a significant change, we respect their decision and thank them for their contribution to the development of young players during their time at Farsley Celtic.

"We would like to make it clear that this decision does not affect our Women’s, Deaf, or Development teams – all of which will continue to operate as planned during the 2025/26 season."

Celtic have had a tumultuous few years, with a botched pitch upgrade forcing them to play 'home' games at a variety of different venues, including at Buxton in Derbyshire.
