Senior officers have authorised the use of Section 60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act to deter people from carrying weapons.
The measures were introduced after two men received injuries from a bladed article in the Kirkstall area at around 17:00 on Tuesday 29th October 2024.
Two hours earlier, a man suffered head injuries after reports of a fight in the Wortley area of the city.
Seven men have been arrested on suspicion of affray in connection with the incident shortly before 15:00.
The order gives police officers the power to search people or vehicles for offensive weapons or dangerous instruments.
The powers were introduced at 17:40 on Tuesday and expected to last 24 hours. West Yorkshire Police said that “its continuation will be subject to regular reviews.”
