Police have launched an appeal for information and witnesses after a motorcyclist was fatally injured in a crash near Leeds.

Officers were called to the A58 in Drighlington at around 9:10am on Saturday (September 28th) following reports of a crash between a motorbike and a car on Whitehall Road.

When responders arrived on the scene, close to the junction with New Lane, they found that the driver of the motorcycle had sustained serious injuries.

It has since been confirmed that a black motorcycle had collided with a silver Kia Rio in the road accident.

Other emergency services were called to the scene to help with investigations, whilst paramedics gave emergency medical treatment to the man.

However, despite their best efforts, the motorcyclist - a 51-year-old man - was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car was treated for minor injuries before being arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The man remains in police custody while investigations take place, as a road closure remains in place.

West Yorkshire Police are now appealing for information and witnesses, urging anyone who may have seen either vehicle just before the collision to come forward.

Anyone who may have any information can get in touch with the force by calling 101 and quoting incident reference number 444 from September 28th.
