Bus ticket prices are set to increase across West Yorkshire, but prices will be capped to £2.50 for a single.

West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin has made an announcement, with a £6 cap for DaySaver tickets across the region.

It comes after the government announced the national bus fare cap, currently at £2 for a single, will go up to £3 from January next year.

The £2 fare will remain in place across West Yorkshire until March, with £2.50 fares being brought in for the period lasting until at December 30 2025.

It comes after the government announced West Yorkshire would get an additional £36m to improve bus services.

Mayor of West Yorkshire Tracy Brabin said:

“This is devolution in action – taking decisions at a regional level to benefit the people of West Yorkshire.

“More affordable and simpler fares are the only way to get more people using public transport, reducing congestion, improving air quality and tackling the climate emergency.

“Improving our bus network and bringing it back under public control is central to our plan to build a greener, better-connected region that works for all.”
