The much-hated 100ml restriction for liquids in hand luggage is returning for passengers flying out of Leeds Bradford Airport from midnight on Sunday (9th June).

The rule was abolished after new scanners were installed, but they now need to be upgraded and so the limit is being reinstated, though bosses insist only on a temporary basis.

An official statement for the Department for Transport said it was a routine measure and not in response to a specific threat: "Restrictions on liquids will temporarily be reintroduced for passengers travelling from six regional airports where Next Generation Security Checkpoints (NGSC) are in full operation.

"This temporary move is to enable further improvements to be made to the new checkpoint systems and will only affect a small number of passengers. For most passengers, security measures will remain unchanged.

"Passengers should continue to check security requirements with their departure airport before travelling.”

As well as Leeds Bradford, it'll affect passengers travelling from Newcastle, London City, Aberdeen, Southend and Teesside.
