Police in Cambridgeshire have retrieved a body of a woman in her 80s from the River Fens and have launched an investigation into her death.

Officers were first called to Chain Bridge near March at 8:35am on Saturday morning (July 14th) after members of the public grew concerned for the welfare of two people in the area.

Responders inspected the area into the afternoon, where they found the body of a woman in her 80s in the river.

Searches remain ongoing for the whereabouts of the second person, believed to be a man also in his 80s.

Speaking on the incident, Detective Inspector Lee Womack from Cambridgeshire Police said that enquiries remain ongoing into the woman's death.

"We are currently treating the death of the woman as unexplained and searches are ongoing of the river and the surrounding area to locate the man," he said.

"We would like to appeal to anyone who was driving in the area on 10 July and may have dashcam footage of a silver Vauxhall Astra or the man and woman."

Anyone who may have any relevant information is being urged to get in touch with police as soon as possible by calling 101 and quoting incident reference number 116 from July 13th.
