Met Office issues four-day warning as thunderstorms are forecast
The storm warning comes into force from Wednesday night
After a period of sunny, warm weather the Met Office has issued a four-day weather warning for thunderstorms across much of England.
The yellow warning comes in to force at 18:00 on Wednesday (16 June) and currently ends on Saturday morning.
It follows days of warm and sunny weather, with Monday being the hottest day of the year so far.
The Met Office says there is the potential for travel disruption and flooding across the affected area.
Here's what the Met Office say to expect
- There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail and strong winds
- Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services
- Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
- There is a small chance that some communities become cut off by flooded roads
- There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost
