Kent Police have launched a murder investigation following a fatal shooting in the town of Knockholt.

Officers were called to the Three Horshoes pub on Main Road in the area just after 7pm on Friday evening (February 14th).

Responders arrived at the scene to reports of a disturbance and soon found that a woman in her 40s had sustained serious injuries.

Emergency services were called to the scene, where they determined that the injuries were consistent with that of gunshot wounds.

The woman received emergency medical treatment but was sadly pronounced dead a short time later at the scene.

Kent Police have now confirmed that a murder investigation is now underway following the attack, with the victim's next of kin being informed of her death.

Officers have already made discoveries in relation to the event, as they were called to the Dartford Crossing nearby, where they found a vehicle linked to the incident, alongside a firearm.

The force added: "Enquiries are ongoing to identify and locate all persons potentially involved."

Residents who had been in the area at the time of the shooting have described the chaos which they saw.

Steve Maines, a parish councillor in Knockholt, told journalists: "We were sitting having our Valentine's Day meal when all of a sudden we heard this huge commotion outside in the car park.

"We were told someone had been shot so we had to leave."
