The funeral of Kendal girl Poppy Atkinson is taking place this morning.

Poppy died on the fifth of march.

The aspiring footballer, who idolised the likes of Ella Toone, was only 10 when she passed away.

Today people are being urged to line the pavements and wear something red to mark poppy's favourite team Manchester United.

The procession will start at around 20 to 11 through parts of Kendal, before a service is held at 11 at Kendal Parish Church.

Afterwards, Poppy will be taken to her final resting place.

Poppy's family posted on social media: "Poppy dreamed of being a pro footballer — let’s honour her courage and infectious energy by uniting as a community. Your presence along the route will mean the world to our family."

"Over these impossibly tough weeks, your kindness, through messages, hugs, and quiet acts of support, has kept us standing. To see our community, and even strangers afar, wrap around us like this... there are no words.

"But please know that your love has been our light in these very difficult and tragic times."
