England face Spain in the final of the 2025 Women’s European Championship later – and will be looking to retain their crown.

The Lionesses came through a dramatic semi-final against Italy, needing extra time and late goals from rising star Michelle Agyemang and Chloe Kelly to book their spot in a third consecutive major final. Spain, meanwhile, edged past Germany 1-0 thanks to a 113th-minute strike from Ballon d’Or winner Aitana Bonmati.

Sunday’s clash in Basel will be a rematch of the 2023 World Cup final, where Spain narrowly beat Sarina Wiegman’s side. This time, England are aiming to defend their Euros crown – and become the first non-German nation to win back-to-back European titles since the tournament began more than 40 years ago.

Victory would also mark England’s second major title in just three years.

For Spain, it’s a shot at their first Euros trophy and a chance to join Germany and Norway as the only nations to hold both the Women’s World Cup and European Championship titles at the same time.

Midfielder Ella Toone said the team were proud to be making another final:

“It’s mad, I’ve not thought about that. It's amazing – to make three consecutive finals is something we can be so proud of, the whole country can be proud.”

Looking ahead to the final, she added:

“I’m really excited, I want to go out on the pitch and give everything for England and the team. Hopefully we can put on a good performance.”

Toone also spoke about what it means to wear the shirt:

“Pride – every time I get to pull the shirt on it's just pride. Something I dreamed of when I was a little girl. To go to major tournaments representing your country, I still pinch myself now. I'm 50-odd caps in and it's still an amazing feeling – just the same as the first time.”

“You want to fight for each other and for the fans. I have the sense of freedom and belief. It never changes.”

Kick-off in Basel is 5pm.
