Three men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a cyclist was killed following a collision in Birmingham.

Emergency services were called to the junction of Vera Road and Moat Lane in Yardley at 12.08am this morning (2 August).

West Midlands Ambulance Service sent two ambulances, a paramedic officer and the Air Ambulance Critical Care Car to the scene.

A spokesman said: “Crews were informed that a man on an electric bike and a vehicle had been involved in a collision.

“The cyclist was in a critical condition and was receiving basic life support from police colleagues. Ambulance crews immediately took over and began administering advanced life support.

“Sadly, despite everyone’s best efforts, it became clear that the man couldn’t be saved and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”

Police said the vehicle involved, believed to be a white Seat Leon, left the scene. The man’s family is being supported by family liaison officers.

The area is currently cordoned off while inquiries continue.

Three men, aged 17, 19 and 20, were arrested from an address in Yardley in the early hours of this morning on suspicion of murder and are currently in custody.

Police are particularly keen to hear from anyone who was in the Moat Lane, Coventry Road and Vera Road areas just before, or after, the collision.
